Empowering Leadership: How NLC Is Modernizing Committee Applications with AMS Geek

We’re excited to share a new project we’re working on with the National League of Cities (NLC)—and it’s one that puts flexibility, efficiency, and usability at the center of the member experience.

The Challenge: A Smarter, More Flexible Application Process

NLC uses NetForum as their Association Management System (AMS), and like many associations, they have a yearly process for collecting committee applications from members and leaders. But their existing process was rigid and difficult to update year over year—plus it didn’t provide the seamless experience their members expect.

They needed a solution that could:

• Handle both leadership and member committee applications
• Support different questions and file uploads each year
• Run multiple applications concurrently
• Be reusable, dynamic, and easy for staff to manage

That’s where AMS Geek came in.

The Solution: Dynamic Committee Applications, Built for the Future

We’re building a fully configurable, dynamic application tool that lives inside NetForum—and works hand-in-hand with NLC’s current systems.

Here’s what the new system will do:

Custom Setup Inside NetForum (iWeb)

NLC staff will be able to:

• Create applications with start/end dates and types
• Add custom steps and questions (text, dropdowns, file uploads, etc.)
• Link questions to individual records to pre-fill or update member data
• Copy previous applications to simplify next year’s setup

Seamless Member Experience in eWeb

Applicants will:

• See open applications and previous submissions
• Select their preferred committees and rank their choices
• Complete step-by-step questions and upload required files
• Save progress, edit responses, and submit when ready

Each submission will be tracked with statuses like Draft or Submitted, with preferences and nominations stored cleanly in NetForum.

Data, Reporting & Admin Tools

Staff will have tools to:

• Transfer nominations in bulk
• Set application dates easily
• Generate reports by committee, position, or application
• View responses and uploaded documents all in one place

And yes—everything is mobile friendly for users on the go.

Built to Scale, Ready for More

Even though this project focuses on committee nominations, we’re designing the tool with future use cases in mind!

It’s another example of how AMS Geek helps associations get more out of the tools they already have, with smart, scalable solutions.
